CHEATHAM COUNTY BEEKEEPERS
CHEATHAM CO. LIBRARY, ASHLAND CITY, TN
March 8, 2014
The meeting was called to order at 9:30 am by President Chris Robbins.
As this meeting is also our Beginners Beekeeper Class/Workshop, there were many newcomers in attendance. Chris took a few minutes to explain a little about the club and welcome those attending for the first time.
A Treasurer’s report was given by Becky Harris. She reported we had a beginning balance of $838.46. $137.00 was collected in dues this past month. Expenditures were $107.00, which left us with a balance of $868.46 at months end. Upon completion of this report, a motion was made and seconded to accept the report as given. The motion passed on a voice vote with no objections.
Chris then displayed a sample hat and shirt with a Cheatham County Beekeepers logo. All present thought they looked good. The cost for the hats is $10.00 and the shirts would be $14.00 - $16.00 depending on the size ordered.
Chris reported that he and Becky attended a meeting of the TN Beekeepers Association last month. We are now officially an affiliate club of the Association as a number of our members have also joined the TN Beekeepers Association. This has allowed us to receive three Hive Grants for new Beekeepers. Chris then read the Conditions of Eligibility for a hive grant recipient.
This was the end of our short business meeting as we had a large number in attendance (77) and the Beginners Beekeeping Course was the main event of the day.
After a short break to re-arrange the room, Roger Senechal gave a presentation titled “ 10 Things I Wish I Knew as a Rookie Beekeeper”.
Upon completion of Roger’s presentation the groups split up and two workshops were given. The first workshop was “Assembling Woodenware and Set up of a Hive”. This workshop was led by Junior Morrow. The second workshop was “Beekeeping Vocabulary and Terminology”, led by Chris Robbins. Half the group attended each workshop, and then rotated to the other one upon completion. Many members were also present to answer questions of those attending the workshops.
It was exciting to see so many newcomers interested in Beekeeping, and all were welcomed to attend our next meeting, which will be held on April 12, 2014 at 9:30 am.
